Move More Adult Open Water Swimming is here to offer a fun and relaxed setting for islanders to enjoy outdoor swimming, improve mental and physical wellbeing.

Move More Adult Open Water Swimming is here to offer a fun and relaxed setting for islanders to enjoy outdoor swimming, improve mental and physical wellbeing and provide the opportunity for participants to enjoy a supervised swim with a safe, supportive and encouraging group setting.

The swims will be led by Qualified Open Water Swimming Coaches who are supported by experienced and trained volunteers; who are friendly, sociable and inclusive. Where possible our swims will be followed by a cuppa’ in a local café and give participants to opportunity to enjoy socialising with other swimmers.

MOVE MORE INTRODUCTION TO OPEN WATER SWIMMING IS FOR:

  • Anyone over the age of 16 years old.
  • People who can already swim 25m – 50m in a pool environment.
  • People who are open water beginners and need support to get started.
  • People who can swim front crawl or breaststroke with either their head up or face in the water.
  • People who are nervous/apprehensive about sea swimming.
  • People with lower physical ability, long-term health conditions and those who would like to try open water swimming to become more active.
  • Anyone looking to make new friendships – our programmes are sociable and great if you enjoy the company of others.

MOVE MORE INTRODUCTION TO OPEN WATER SWIMMING

The Move More Introduction to Open Water Swimming programme is open to novice open water swimmers. Over the course of six weeks (with one session per week), swimmers will learn the basics of swimming in the sea and build upon their pool swimming ability, whilst being educated on the tides, effects of weather and do’s and don’ts for open water swimming.

The small group sessions will take place in the safety of Harve Des Pas bathing pool or Ouaisne Bay (dependant upon the tide – and changes will be confirmed to participants prior to the session). The final session will be held a different location which will be confirmed nearer the time as this depends on the groups ability and tide.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?

To get started you will need some comfortable swimwear, a brightly coloured swimming hat, swimming goggles and a towel. If you have a wetsuit that you would like to wear you are welcome to, but this is optional. We also recommend that people with long hair tie their hair back, even when wearing a swimming hat, as it makes it easier to put them on. If the sun is shining please don’t forget to put on your water resistant sun cream!

You will be required to wear a tow float when swimming, which we will loan to you during the sessions, however you may wish to purchase your own as this is a useful piece of kit for continuing your open water swimming journey.

Don’t forget your warm clothes to wear afterwards including socks and shoes, even a woolly hat, and a warm drink and a snack.
