CYCLE
MORE

We've got a range of cycling programmes to help you to learn how to ride a bicycle, build your confidence when cycling on a variety of terrains, support you to meet other local cyclists and discover new routes.

Our Move More Cycle programmes are for islanders who need cycling support and are designed to help get people started on their cycling journey.

It doesn’t matter if you haven’t cycled before and are feeling nervous about getting on a bicycle – we’re here to help and support you at the start of your cycling journey.

Our rides are designed to progress your cycling ability gradually, and our classes are a great way for you to meet new people whilst improving your fitness.

Cycling is a great form of exercise and has many benefits for you and the environment. Here’s a few good reasons why you should consider cycling:

  • It can improve your health through increasing cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and flexibility, improves joint mobility, posture, balance and coordination, decreases stress levels, anxiety and depression and strengthens bones
  • It helps to prevent or manage life limiting disease
  • Cycling is low impact exercise – which causes less strain and injuries than other forms of exercise
  • It’s a good muscle workout as cycling uses all of the major muscle groups as you pedal
  • It’s a fun way to get fit as you can get a sense of adventure and a buzz from coasting down hills or finding new routes you might have not discovered before
  • Cycling is a time-efficient mode of transport, as it replaces the time you may spend sitting driving or sitting on a bus, with healthy exercise
  • Cycling is also good for the environment as it reduces air pollution, which will help to keep our island clean

MOVE MORE CYCLE PROGRAMMES

We have three levels of Move More Cycle programmes available:

  1. Learn to Ride is for complete beginners who can’t yet pedal a bike, or who are unconfident riding a bike
  2. Sofa2Saddle is for those who may have learnt to cycle, but need some support to feel more confident when riding
  3. Gaining Momentum is designed to add saddle time to your cycle rides – which will help boost your confidence on different routes and terrain

Helmets are not compulsory, but we highly recommend them! Ride Leaders have the right to refuse to take you on a ride if you do not have a helmet. Every bike should be fitted with a bell that works to let people know you are coming. Please wear appropriate clothing and shoes when participating in our programmes and cycle rides, and please remember to bring your own water, food, sun cream, gloves (with grip) and any medication required.

If you have any questions or need support to find a cycle ride or programme to suit you, please contact our Move More Community Engagement and Inclusion Officer, Claudia Andrade at: claudia.andrade@jerseysport.je
