Jersey Sport are asking islanders to GET INVOLVED and ZUMBA!
We’re back! Calling for local Superheroes to Find Your Power!
The At Home Superhero’s Series Powered by Marvel is back! Move More Jersey, an initiative by Jersey Sport, are once again partnering with the UK Superhero Series in a Disney Marvel inspired event to bring the latest virtual Superheroes challenge to Jersey! Move More Jersey have worked with Superheroes Series UK to secure 500 spaces for islanders with disabilities and their families and friends to take part for free.
This year’s ‘At Home’ event is a month-long Superheroes Summer Virtual Street Party from 23 July – 20 August where participants will remotely join forces with Marvel-themed SUPER TEAMS to power to some of the world’s most iconic party destinations!
Move More Jersey are inviting anyone who would consider themselves to have a disability, their friends and family, to join in this ultra-flexible challenge to find their own power. Superheroes will be placed in one of four SUPER TEAMS and they can choose to run, wheel, swim, push, taste, touch, dance and anything in between towards their own personal goal. The participants distances will be collected over the four weeks and added to those of their fellow teammates from far and wide to progress their SUPER TEAM’s progress on the Superheroes Series UK Super World Map.
Partnered with Marvels’ #FindYourPower, this event showcases the Everyday Superhero powers we all hold within and inspire confidence within the next generation. This is a socially inclusive event where it’s not just about physical activity opportunities but also to engage islanders with a disability to set themselves a small challenge with their friends and family to find new strengths they never thought they had.
Move More Jersey will provide a programme of accessible events for islanders to take part in including walks, cycling at their Cycle Without Limits centre and multisport activity sessions. The challenge also offers the perfect opportunity for island charities and groups to work together to register teams and hold their own events. Islanders can sign up to take part at: At Home Superheroes • Jersey Sport – Move More
Everyone who signs up to take part in the challenge will receive a Super Race Pack containing a Marvel ‘Find Your Power’ medal, T-shirt and finish line tape to celebrate that all-important finishing moment!
Move More Jersey are also running a local competition to find four local team captains to our Jersey Superheroes teams to victory with the closing date being Thursday 30 June.
Everyone has their own hidden unique powers but sometimes they need encouragement to find them, and Move More Jersey hope this challenge helps islanders to realise them.
In the lead up to the event, Events Jersey, 3D Events and Jersey Sport hosted a visit with Sophia Warner, Paralympian and Founder of the Superhero Series on the island to look at venues and hold discussions with the view to bringing an ‘in person’ event to Jersey in 2023.
Meryl Laisney, Head of Marketing & Product, Visit Jersey said:
“Events Jersey is delighted to welcome Sophia Warner to Jersey and we’re excited to explore the possibility of bringing an in-person event to Jersey in the future. The Superhero Series is an inclusive and inspiring event that not only provides great value and creates opportunities for islanders, but also connects Jersey to a global community and showcases all the island has to offer as a year-round events destination”.
Sophia Warner said, “I am really excited to be in the island and learn more about Jersey and meet some of the island’s amazing Superheroes. It is fantastic to once again be working with Move More Jersey on the ‘At Home’ Superheroes event. We have had a really great few days meeting exploring the island and meeting with various people and Jersey is the perfect place to host a Superheroes Series event. We would love to see if we can work with some key partners to bring it to the island next year as it’s such a great destination for many of our existing Superheroes in the UK and to provide an empowering and inclusive fun community event for islanders.”
