Move More Jersey are teaming up with Mind Jersey this month to encourage islanders to kick-start their new year and take part in RED January, to help raise money for the local mental health charity.
Islanders are being asked to give their mental wellbeing a sporting chance this January and start the new year in a positive way. Whether choosing to walk, run, swim, cycle or take part in a favourite fitness activity – the aim of RED January is to set your exercise goal for the month, make a donation to Mind Jersey and enjoy support from Move More Jersey every step, splash and pedal of the way!
The initiative encourages people to support their mental health and wellbeing by building movement into their daily lives. By combining a fitness challenge with the support of the wider community, the focus is to encourage and motivate people to move more and build more physical activity into their daily lives.
Hugo Forrester, Operations Manager at Mind Jersey said, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Jersey Sport and honoured to be beneficiaries of the exceptionally important RED January campaign.
The new year is a great opportunity to make a fresh start and introduce some small manageable changes that can have huge positive effects on our mental health. It is proven that in many cases exercise can combat the symptoms of mild-moderate depression as effectively as anti-depressants. We strongly believe in exercise being one of the key elements to maintaining wellbeing and sustaining good mental health – that doesn’t mean you have to go out and run a marathon, it means getting into the fresh air, moving your body, and doing something you enjoy, whatever that may be.”
Move More Jersey, in partnership with Mind Jersey, are promoting RED January to beat the winter blues, at a time when people may have overindulged at Christmas and feel ready to make some positive lifestyle changes.

Getting outside in the fresh air this winter brings with it many health benefits for your body and mind, including helping to improve your mood and self-esteem.
